In 1932, when Arkhangelsk Pedagogical Institute was established, the Department of Marxism-Leninism was formed. On February 26, 1971, it was divided into the Department of the CPSU History and Political Economy and the Department of Philosophy and Scientific Communism. On October 10, 1989, the latter was renamed to the Department of Philosophy and Scientific Socialism. On October 10, 1990, the Academic Council of the Arkhangelsk State Pedagogical Institute decided to divide the Department of Philosophy and Scientific Socialism into the Department of Philosophy and the Department of Political Science. In 2011, the Department of Philosophy merged with the Arkhangelsk State Technical University’s Department of Philosophy and became part of the Institute of Social, Humanitarian and Political Sciences of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. V. Lomonosov. In 2015, the Department of Philosophy was renamed to the Philosophy and Sociology Department. Today the Philosophy and Sociology Department provides a wide range of training programs. Doctoral Studies
The educational project is being implemented as part of the bachelor's degree program together with the Department of Culturology and Religious Studies. It allows 1-2-year students to acquire competencies in the humanities (Philosophy and Sociology cycles). The project also gives the opportunity to master an additional module at the student's choice (Cultural Studies, Religious Studies, Intellectual Systems in the Humanities, Sociology, Philosophy) for the students in the 3-4 years. As a result, the graduate receives additional competencies that increase his competitiveness in the labor market. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS OF THE BACHELOR LEVEL
After graduating from the bachelor's degree, graduates can continue their studies in master's and postgraduate studies, including the educational programs that are implemented by the Department of Philosophy and Sociology. Graduates of the bachelor's and master's programs of the department get jobs in research institutions; sociological centers; municipal, regional and federal state bodies; public organizations and commercial structures; design organizations; museums, libraries, cultural centers; information and analytical centers, mass media and PR-agencies. Graduates of postgraduate programs successfully defend their Ph.D. theses and work in scientific and educational institutions. We are proud of our professors who combine teaching with their main jobs as employees of the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region (e.g., Ph.D. O.P. Skidan, Ph.D. I.V. Katorin), Federal Research Center for the Comprehensive Study of the Arctic named after Academician N.P. Laverov (for example, Ph.D. K.O. Malinin, Ph.D. A.M. Maksimov), Sociology centers and analytical agencies (for example, Ph.D. O.N. Russova, PhD T.S. Smak). Join us on VKontakte:
