On November 1, 1832, the Faculty of Literature and the Russian Language was formed in Arkhangelsk Pedagogical Institute. In 1834, the Department of Literature and the Russian Language was formed. The first head of the Department was I. Elizarovskiy. In 1938, the Department was divided into two. The Department of Literature was established. The first head of the separate Department was M. Germanova. The Department of Literature brought together the brightest minds. Among them, Sh. Galimov, Professor, writer and literary critic, E. Galimova, Doctor of Philology, Professor, writer and literary critic, E. Kolesnichenko, Senior Lecturer. They are also Assistant Professors A. Bednov, R. Frenkel, L. Lenina, L. Fedorova, L. Skepner, L. Reznichenko, G. Polyakova N. Zakharova, E. Lipnitskaya.

After graduating from the bachelor’s degree, graduates can continue their studies in master’s and postgraduate studies (training program — 10.01.01 Russian Literature). Graduates of the bachelor’s and master’s programs of the department get jobs in research institutions; educational institutions; public organizations and commercial structures; design organizations; museums, libraries, cultural centers; information and analytical centers, mass media and PR-agencies. Graduates of postgraduate programs successfully defend their Ph.D. theses and work in scientific and educational institutions.
