General information and activity profile.

The department of cultural  and religious studies was established  in 1997. Professors of the department of cultural and religious studies teach  many disciplines which provide knowledge of different aspects of historical and contemporary  culture such as Globalization and Information Culture, Cultural Processes of the XXth –XXIst century, Cultural policy, Cross-Cultural Communication, Religious and Cultural Heritage, History and Culture of the Russian North, Religions and Culture of indigenous people of the North, Interreligious Relations.

Teachers and staff of department take active part in grant activity (Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR), Grants of the President of the Russian Federation, Russkiy Mir Foundation).

The main scientific research subject is geocultural space of the Arctic territories  of Russia: images, values, senses

Brief description:

Research of genesis, structure and semantics of geocultural space of the peoples of the Arctic.

The cultural landscape is presented as a system of codes of the culture which is directly connected with the territory, and forms the system of signs.
